‘Instances of fixed proportions’
Friday, 21st April – Saturday, 6th May
Art made by machines is the conceptual paradox that drives the paintings by artist Tony Curran in his hard edged, gestural paintings. Exploring this relationship between hand and device, the artist has built a program, titled The unconscious is a rectangle, which randomly generates new compositions from a database of shapes – each mined from observational drawings the artist has made on an iPad. Instances of fixed proportions presents a series of paintings made from and shown alongside this custom program.
Tony Curran is a Canberra-based artist and sessional lecturer at the Australian National University School of Art and Design.
Please join us for a drink at the opening of ‘Instances of fixed proportions’ on Friday the 21st of April from 6pm.
